Liam Jehu Makes THMC History as Sydney Marks Sixth Continent
The Hendon Mob Championship has reached a milestone only a few have achieved: hosting an event on six continents. Liam Jehu took the inaugural Australian THMC title during the historic Irish Open International Sydney.
The Hendon Mob Championship has added another landmark destination to our growing global history.
The inaugural THMC Australia took place at Club Marconi Poker Palace in Sydney as part of the first-ever international edition of the Irish Open. The Irish Open’s arrival in Australia marked its first international expansion after 46 years, while the THMC’s Sydney debut means the championship has now been contested across six continents.
And the first Australian champion is a player who made sure his name would be remembered.
Liam Jehu Takes the First Australian THMC
Australia’s Liam Jehu defeated a field of 102 in the A$525 + A$75 The Hendon Mob Championship, collecting A$13,400 and becoming the first player to lift a THMC trophy on Australian soil.
Jehu already had an impressive tournament résumé before arriving in Sydney. His Hendon Mob profile shows more than $1.17 million in recorded live tournament earnings, including a career-best cash of A$373,720, and the THMC victory added another title to an increasingly successful 2026.
But Jehu wasn’t finished.
Just one day after winning the THMC, he returned to the Poker Palace and won the A$525 2-7 Triple Draw Championship, earning another A$6,375. Two consecutive tournament victories made for quite the way to celebrate the THMC’s Australian arrival.
Thatcher Makes Irish Open History
The wider festival concluded with another historic first, as Sydney local Jarrod Thatcher became the inaugural international Irish Open Main Event champion. Thatcher defeated a 515-entry field to claim the A$1,700 Main Event and a A$155,100 payday following a five-way deal at the final table.
The festival’s Mini Irish Open was won by Soumen Sen, while a host of other championship events were contested across the 15-day schedule at Club Marconi Poker Palace.
For The Hendon Mob Championship, however, the headline will always belong to Liam Jehu.
Sydney was THMC’s first Australian stop, its sixth continent, and the beginning of another chapter in the championship’s international journey.
