On this occasion you can again make an Ace-high flush, using A -9-6-5-2. You will notice that before the last card you had a Six-high straight. However, the 9 improved our hand from a straight to a flush.

Here you have two pair Jacks and Tens with a Queen kicker (J-J-10-10-Q). Neither of your Nines comes into play. When neither of your hole cards are used in your final hand, you are said to be ‘playing the board’.
