I have researched my trip for this Christmas and will share the info if you want?
3K is enough if you have a place to stay a few nights. Even then easy do-able if not.
Where you going and what dates? _________________ Update TBC |

I think BA do this for about £850 return which is fairly good. I don't know what your preference would be as to where to stay. A three start hotel would be ~ £60 per night. This might leave you around £1000 for spending money which would be only around £50 per day. If you are not looking to do anything glamorous then it might be enough. |

There are some pretty decent hotels for not a lot of money. Melbourne has a Travel Lodge in the central business district which is decent and equivalent or cheaper than UK rates for the same brand.
Flights can be cheaper if you do a 3 hop with emirates (Dubai - KL/SG - Melbourne) rather than a 2 hop with BA/Quantas (SG-Sydney). We got emirates business class on sale on the A380 with the pods and lay flat beds for not much more than BA's premium economy.
Melbourne and Sydney are both expensive to eat and drink, though you can eat cheaply if you look around. _________________ Si Hoc Legere Scis Nimium Eruditionis Habes |

I said £50 per day and that would be ~ 75AUD. That was with staying in a hotel though.
A campervan would be around $120 a day. A three star hotel would be around $90 per day. With the latter you will have to figure out how you will travel. If you want to check out the Outback areas then I think the town of Walgett is the place to see and travel around if you are from Sydney.
If you search online you might find if there are any packages that are appropriate for you.
Your flight and a campervan (campervan for around 18 days) will cost you around $3600 AUD. This would only leave you about 1000 bucks. I think you need 4k sterling. |

| As you have included spending money in the equation I would say min £3k but does depend on the type of accommodation and what you want to do when you are there and maybe budget up to £5k. My recent trip (for 2) easily exceeded this figure. |
