One of the managers in the casino i worked in remembered the order of 11 decks of shuffled cards. Think that was a Guiness record at the time. _________________ Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici |

"Dave Farrow is a two-time Guinness Record holder for Greatest Memory. In 1996 he memorized the order of 52 decks of playing cards, randomly shuffled together, and recalled them correctly under Guinness Record (a total of 2704 cards).[2] In 2007, Farrow reclaimed this record by memorizing 59 decks of playing cards,[3] making him the current record holder for Greatest Memory (a total of 3068 cards)."

I thought that sounded a bit too easy to be a record. |

| I don't believe for a minute that you can shuffle a deck of cards and have that ordering be the first ever, as if Stephen Fry's pudgy fingers are unique. Terrible research. |

Laws of probability says he's probably correct. |

| well if it is a brand new deck that is still in order from the way he shuffled it I would say it is impossible for them to be back in order after |

Discounting sleight of hand, improbable maybe, but not impossible. _________________ Roger Porter |

Fry explained how infinitesmial the chances are in the programme. It's
80658175170943878571660636856403766975289505440883277824000000000000 to 1.
To put this into a more familiar context it's like guessing all the lottery numbers correctly in order if there were fifty-two balls and all fifty-two of them were used. |

Exactly. It's not impossible. _________________ Roger Porter |

| The real odds are nothing like that. He did four standard shuffles in a row, copying countless others. |

| The cards were not a brand new pack when he started shuffling and were already in a random order. |

With impossible being the operative word here, let us say for arguments sake that it was a new, un-shuffled deck and that no jiggerpokery was going on during the shuffle. Is it still impossible for the cards to return to their original order? _________________ Roger Porter |
