I would guess, swings like this are standard in PLO at this level and that he would need to play a lot more hands to even be sure he is a winner in these games.

Not necessarily....there is a difference between losing a million and being down a million and the high-stakes nose bleed games require a working bankroll of at least several times that.

If over the year you're up $100,000,000 then dropping a million is no different to being up $1,000 at nl10 and dropping a few buy ins. It doesn't suddenly make you a loser at the game.

Nearly all professional gamblers who I know talk of being "up" or "down" and not "winning" or "losing".

What I was saying was that some of these guys have serious seven figure bankrolls and can run good and bad for big seven figure sums just like Grundy and Hansen are doing at the moment. A successful player at this level could well be down a million after say two months but they have only lost it when its lost and can never come back and not when they are probably only temporarily down.

If Liverpool are losing a football match 1-0 then they havent lost it.....yet. They are behind at this moment in time. A loss is something that isnt retrieved. The normal variance in these games dictates that players will be ahead and behind by seven figure sums.

Mr Lewis, 71, a tax exile in the Bahamas, is estimated to be worth £1.5 billion in the Forbes annual list of billionaires. The Sunday Times Rich List said he is worth £2.8 billion. But that was before the fall of Bear Stearns.

Dependent upon your view, Joe Lewis has either lost £1.3 billion or made £1.5 billion.

Personally I say he has made £1.5 billion.
