Early action
On the first hand of the day Kevin Stebbing raises to 5000. Immediately to his left Richard Lapwood re-raises to 15000 before John Dick moves all in from the button for 45200. Stebbing folds and Lapwood dwells up before deciding he can’t call. It’s a nice early pot for John Dick.

A good opening break for Higgins

We were pleased to see our prediction that short-stacked John Higgins might not return for the final day’s action was wrong. He moved all-in on the button with 6 5 and was called by Neil Stewart on the big blind with K Q. A flop of 3 A J brought draws for both players but Higgins hit his first when 4 landed on the turn. The meaningless river was K and Higgins got a much-needed early double-up.

Early bath for Eglintine

Carl Eglintine got it all-in pre-flop with A-3 against P. Scott’s A-K, which made broadway to send Eglintine to the rail after 5 minutes of play.

Rizwan Hussein won't be bullied

With 10,000 in the pot, John Welsh bets 7,000 on the flop of 9 J 4 Hussein does not have one of the bigger stacks so he needs to get his decision right here. He calls and Welsh fires again for 8,000 when J is the turn card. Hussein calls again and the river is 8
With two bets already called Welsh presumably thinks he will not be able to get Hussein off his hand with a third bullet.
He checks, Hussein checks behind and turns over his cards. His 8 10 for the straight draw turned into one pair on the river and that’s good enough to win. Welsh mucks.

Shahid Aslami eliminated

Shahid Aslami got it all-in pre-flop with A-T against Jamie Coonan’s 8-8. Aslam must have thought he was home and dry when he flopped K-Q-J for the broadway straight. The poker gods, however, had other ideas. Turn 8, river Q and Aslam hit the rail.

J Clarke doubles up

J Clarke moves the last of his chips in pre-flop with A K . Mick McCool calls from the big blind with 2 K and picks up a flush draw on the flop of 5 Q 7 . Fortunately for Clarke the flush never materialises and he doubles up.

They don't last long though

J Clarke moves in with KQ and finds Keith Wright in the small blind with pocket aces. No help from the board and he’s out latest elimination.

Prayer not Granted

Rory Matthews raised to 4500 under the gun and Steven Grant re-raised all-in for an additional 13900 from the cut-off. Matthews deliberated before making the call with A J. He had Grant’s A T dominated. Grant prayed “Come on the ten!” but the board ran out 6 Q J 8 4, sending him to the rail.

Morelli bites the dust

Robbie Morelli doesn’t give Charles Denton’s re-raise credit and he moves all in. Denton calls and shows A K which is looking good Morelli’s K 8 . Morelli needs an 8 or exactly 3 clubs to stay alive but his hopes soon fade. A 10 4 Q 2 sees Denton collect all Morelli’s chips
