Just finished watching this for the first time. Amazing film, if it wasn't so late I'd watch it again right now.
Certainly made up for 2001:A Space Odyssey that I'd watched immediately beforehand. My goodness, that's a bad film. I almost gave up after an hour when I saw there was still an hour twenty to go, luckily I figured out I could fast forward the majority without missing any dialogue or plot. Mind, I could've skipped the entire film and not missed any of the latter. |

As much as I love Kubrick and the book, I just can't get into the film for the reasons you've said. It's bloody boring. |

I've recently decided that although I've seen a lot of films, I haven't seen many of the films that I'm "supposed" to have seen. So I decided that over the next 50 weeks I'd watch the top 100 films according to imdb.com at the time. Here's the verdicts so far:
100: The Sting (1973) - What a way to start the top 100, I enjoyed this immensely. Great ending. Solid 9/10
99: Pan's Labyrinth (2006) - The T100 continues in fine fashion. I'd watched this before but was more than happy to watch it again. Little slow in places but overall a cracking film. 8/10
98: Princess Mononoke (1997) - I realise now something that I didn't realise before: anime films are unfairly represented on imdb.com. The majority of anime films are only viewed by anime fans, thus higher ratings. Don't get me wrong, this isn't an awful film, it's just not very good either. A couple of lol, anime moments earnt it a 6/10
97: Unforgiven (1992) - I've never been a big fan of westerns but I was excited when I saw the cast for this (Eastwood, Hackman, Freeman). Looking back on it, it is a great film. But during the actual watching of it there were quite a few slow paced periods in which I lost attention. If they cut 20 minutes out of it, I'd be awarding a high 8/low 9. As it stands: 7/10
96: The Apartment (1960) - I can appreciate why this film would've been great to wach in the reserved early 60's. But watching it in the 2010's it all seems very tame & not very funny. It does take a rather sinister turn during the second half that grabs the attention but it soon wears off. 6/10
95: The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) - At this point I was beginning to think that imdb's scores were directly correlated to the length of the film. Boy, does this film drag on and on. A few interesting scenes fail to make up for the many, many dull ones. 5/10
94: Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983) - I've had to skip this one since I haven't watched any of the orginal Star Wars (for shame) so need to watch them in order. I'll give a verdict once I've watched the box set.
93: 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) - Quite possibly the worst film I've ever watched. 10 minutes of opening credits followed by 20 minutes of men in monkey suits jumping around. Followed by a half hour of pointless dialogue. Then the main HAL5000 story kicks in which is less interesting than the Simpsons/Futurama parodies. This is followed by a half hour acid trip. I'm being generous giving it 1/10
92: Oldboy (2003) - Just as I was beginning to run out of patience with the T100, this little beauty comes along. Powerful from start to finish but made even more so in hindsight after everything is explained. If this was No. 1 in the list I'd be giving it a 10 but I better reserve that for something higher up the list so 9/10
Next up is Braveheart & Raging Bull. |

Drive Angry 7/10
Nicolas Cage escapes Hell to rescue his infant granddaughter from a cult. Recruits a hot chick to help him, lots of gun play and car chases. Entertaining enough, again as long as your not looking for boundry pushing and thought provoking cinema. _________________ Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici |

Razorback 0.25/10
1984 Aussie made film about a giant Boar that.. well tbf im not really sure wtf it was about. It was a proper pile of Horse Shite worst film ive ever seen. Only saving grace was the blonde from Mad Max 2 was in it and she was HOT. Although after googling her turns out she sadly died of cancer in the early 2000's.
didnt realise she had been in so many uk shows and used to live in New york as a child and her babysitter was Janis Joplin.
Sorry if ive gone off the films track but TBH it didnt have a track to stick to lol. _________________ "There's not enough hippies to save our lives, We need more hippies" |

91: Braveheart (1995) - Good film. Reminded me of a less tongue-in-cheek Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves. That's not to say it's entirely humourless, there's a few witty moments. Could do with being an hour shorter though - 8/10
90: Raging Bull (1980) - Should be called "Waste 2 hours of your life watching Robert De Niro getting fat" because **** all else happens. If you've got an itch for a boxing movie, watch Rocky. This sucks - 3/10
Next up: Metropolis (1927) & All About Eve (1950). What have I gotten myself into? |
