Did you expect anything else? Is being a fan of the national team anything other than a joke? We're an embarrassment from the scumbags at the SFA down to the joke of a manager and things aren't going to change. It'll only get worse from here may as well accept it _________________ Nil Satis Nisi Optimum |

It is a shame for Scotland but in a way what is making it worse is what good sides they used to have. This is similar to England in that much of the pressure on our side stems from the fact that we won the World Cup in 66 and so people think we can repeat it.......technically we can but we would have to get massively lucky to do it.
The great Scottish sides that went into the 74, 78 and 82 World Cups and even arguably the 86 World Cup set a high standard. IMO then it is no coincidence that Scotlands goalden era came at a time when the English club sides were dominating European football with very few foreign players in the league. Unfortunately though there has to be bigger problems at work. The Scottish League is clearly a weak league and so their players are not getting exposure to high level football.
In years gone by then their top players would move south and play for top English sides. This meant players like Dalglish, Jordan, Strachan, Hansen, Gemmill and the list goes on. But then more and more foreign players started entering into the English game and it reached a stage where only around 33% of players in our top league are English. This makes it hard enough for English players let alone Scottish.
There are probably other factors at work as well and grass roots football in Scotland may be suffering/has suffered and once that happens and talent stops being brought through then the future is going to be bleak IMO. _________________ Poker columnist at www.poker.co.uk |
