To be fair, when I got knocked out on the telly pokerz I didn't cry, I just crashed the fags to the remaining players.. Having said that, I haven't stopped crying about it since.

I'm not sure....

1. Why does a poker player have to be more manly than say, a footballer, or athlete, or a City fan? Plenty of sports people cry when they get carried away with emotion.
2. Shows he is human and perhaps actually shos that he isn't the big arrogant **** that many people seem to think he is.
3. It would have been the biggest title of his career (certainly prestigewise), and he was rivered, thats pretty close to the most emotional thing that can happen to a poker player isn't it?

I know he gets a really bad press, and that he seems to have a shocking reputation on forums, and I know many of the reasons for that, but I say give the guy a break....

Looking forward to loads of replies telling me I'm wrong / soft / a plank etc.

I dont have anything against the guy. i have played him a few times and he seemed ok (did i mention ive also played with Amarillo slim, phile helmuth, and loads of other really top class pros).

1. I dont mind the crying if its a teary eye. people are dying in the world and he is crying because he won 65k not 100k. maybe he had other home issues which made him emotional. i dont know.
2. i dont understand how petulantly shouting for water shows you are not a ****.
3. premier league means f**k all except the money. nobody looks at a record to see how many invite only premier league somebody has one. they are irrelevant.
4. they were all in pre so its hardly rivered is it. he was 2-1 and lost. in a hu match big deal.

Maybe its personal issues. maybe he is immature and needs to grow up and get a bit of persepctive. i dont know and like i said he did not seem to bad on the numerous occassions i have met him. all i would say is dont go on tv behaving like a spoilt brat and then crying like your parents have been killed because you lost, what should be a very small % of your multi millionaire bankroll.

I have always found him irritating but that is a superficial reaction to him when on the tellybox. I am aware he may be the coolest geek to hang out with ever.

To be fair, you are absolutely right about the water, shouting at the floor staff because he didn't get a glass of water, was extreme. No matter what happens at the poker table, I never have a go at the staff, I know it is a very hard job, and I just believe that if you are nice to them, they'll be nice to you.

Being aggressive because you haven't got some water is not a nice thing to do...and maybe just maybe...karma...poker gods.....etc.

He has always tilted the hell out of me as a viewer. He seems to take too long to make obvious decisions and has an overly theatrical reaction to big situations. I assume his antics are designed to achieve a combination of tilting his opponents at the table and getting more TV time. It might not be admirable to try to be a mini-Helmuth but there is no denying it works, sadly.

I know. They have one job to do but if they can't see a tip in it for them they'll take an hour.

Hmmm.

I suspect this was a bit a Gordon Brown moment for poor old Andrew. Although of course he was sitting in a TV studio and there were cameras around, he probably thought he was having a private moment to compose himself before his post match interview, and no doubt forgot that his mike was on.

No one's knows what's going on in someone's life when they react emotionally to something they would normally take in their stride; but this incident - and the response in this thread - is a good reminder that those making poker shows are interested in what they think is good TV and not in making the participants look good.

If they had followed him out of the studio and captured a moment like this I would say it was overly intrusive. As it is I suppose it was a bit of a gift and it would be a bit much to expect the producer to have qualms about using it. Like I say though, it's a good reminder if you are ever thinking of playing on TV that the only person you can rely on to give a damn about how you come across is you, and you have very little control over the outcome.

I had the pleasure of being at the recording of this event.

What I would say is that the whole series was filmed in just 5 days. This meant the players having to play 4 long games in 5 days to win the title. Those of you who have played under the TV lights will know this can be far more tiring than playing in normal casino surroundings.

When you're living in that 'bubble' for a few days, it is very easy to be so focussed on winning so much that you do lose perspective. When Andrew lost that last hand, I'm sure he was mentally drained having put all his energies into trying to win the title.

I know Andrew pretty well and whilst I know he can be outspoken and come across as arrogant, I've always found him easy to deal with and someone who is simply dedicated to becoming as good a poker player as possible.

Pro poker players are often criticised for being online nerds and/or not caring enough when they play on TV so I say let's applaud him for showing some emotion and, love him or hate him, having a personality! Cool

It may have been a release of tension. He said it was a gruelling heads up, possibly it was the fact it was all over.

If he was purely crying because he lost, I find it incredibly disturbing. I get that he wants a title but you should be a little more hardened to the turn of a card if you do it for a living.

Admittedly, I laughed.
