Sam Grafton came out on top after a deal was made and he took the lions share of the Money but play didnt go his was after the deal was done and his official finish was 3rd. surely this must open a debate as to who actually wins a tourney A, the player who takes the lions share of the prize B, the player who scoops all the tourney chips in play at the end? _________________ "There's not enough hippies to save our lives, We need more hippies" |

Why did they carry on playing? If there was money to be played for then the person who has all the chips at the end would be the winner for me as they won the last bit of money. If the deal was for all the money then the person with the most chips at that time would be the winner for me.
Imagine there was an added package or seat for the winner. Try to work out who would get it naturally and there is your winner. _________________ Play online with The Mob at Genting Poker |

To me, the last man standing is the winner. A deal should be allowed, but be the equivalent of meeting up in the bar afterwards, and re-dividing the money up as pre-agreed. _________________ Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici |

if they play to a finish, even if it is just for the "title" with all the money having been chopped up earlier, then last person standing is the "winner" in my book.
I am sure most pros would value the money much more highly than the title unless trying to get extra sponsorship/publicity etc. For an amateur I can sometimes see it being the other way around because of extra value of bragging rights back home.
If pros get more money out of the chop because of that then good for them, everyone will be happier. _________________ "Brandon Uhl @BrandonUhl

it was SCOOP #2 that Sam got his 3rd in and like all tourneys on Stars they had to leave money back from a deal to play to a 'winner'. so although Sam came 3rd he SCOOPED most money.
FWIW I think the winner is always the player with the final chips in play. _________________ "There's not enough hippies to save our lives, We need more hippies" |

Interesting question, something I have never been in a place to consider, but if you were heads up in an EPT/WPT/WSOP etc event and you were offered a deal;
a, take 1st place money eg £200k but not the title
b, 2nd place money eg £120k but have the title,
which would you choose? |

Option A every single time. I'm not that competitive and I like to think I'm quite modest, so bragging rights doesn't interest me. An extra £80k would, though. _________________ @oneshotbobby on twitter |

now ask that same question to someone like "The Businessman", Bill Perkins, and you could easily get a different answer.
That's a good question though; what value would you put on winning a WSOP Bracelet for example. For me it might be worth $5k-$10k at least because the $200K+ I would pick up would already be "enough". The difference between winning $210K and $200K is not going to change my life but the kudos and satisfaction for an amateur like me of winning a bracelet would be something i'd have for the rest of my life. _________________ "Brandon Uhl @BrandonUhl

And being a multiple bracelet winner might get you interviews / sponsorship etc, I suppose. _________________ @oneshotbobby on twitter |

the person who wins is the winner
only thing about making a deal before the end is it drastically changes the game play.
like say there 500k in the kitty and it gets chopped
1. 200k
2. 150k
3. 125k
-with 25k left to play for-
people know what they are guaranteed to end up with now and their play changes.
if it was play til the end where money was like this
1. 250k
2. 150k
3. 100k
every pot ur in is basically/or could be a 150k decision.
with the chop in first example they're only making 25k decision so a rock could turn into a LAG monkey
i think the person who walks away with the most money is the 'real' and the person who walks away with the crown is the actual winnner lol i dunno how to word it properly but poker is about winning money and in answer to above question id always take more money over the title(depending on what title and what benefits i could get from the title compared to money etc....i.e WSOP main event id take some cash and title cos ur guaranteed to make lots more with the title in ur portfolio) |

A. Now. I'd always have the feeling I'd bought the bracelet with option B.
Of course, in the situation at the time I'd maybe think differently. _________________ Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici |
