“World Championships just around the corner. Shame it’s played in the Crucible, s*** hole, hopefully it will be in China soon. Rubbish, rather play in Pontins"
PS I am backing Junhui at 12 to 1. |

Just had a look at his Twitter page after this and he is getting all sorts of abuse from everywhere.. Now claiming it was 'tongue in cheek'
Re, Pontins@Prestatyn, this was and still is used for qualifiers. Back in the late 70s/early 80s I used to go on family holidays to watch the pro/am where the professionals used to have to give the amateurs 3xblack start per frame. I saw John Parrot win it as an amateur, and he was being touted as the 'next big thing'.. after Steve Davis. The fact Parrot is now more or less retired, makes me feel old!
I also met one of my childhood heroes there, Alex Higgins. Aged about 10, I ran over to where the group of kids were gleefully comparing their own autographs. As I got there, Alex had just signed what he thought was his last one, then I show up, autograph book & pen in outstretched arms with a hopeful look on my face. 'Look son, im done signing autographs today, but here have this', at which point he reached into his waistcoat and took out his match chalk and gave it to me. 'I am playing at 10am tomorrow morning, make sure you are there to give it back to me, ok?' 'I nodded, without speaking as I was too awe-struck. I then ran as fast as Allan Wells to go and tell my dad.
The next day I got to his table after Alex had arrived, and I could see him looking around. I went up to him, gave him the chalk and he gave me a brand spanking new piece of chalk, which he told me I could keep . The Peoples Champ.. btw, a book came out last year by Tony Francis which is a fantastic read.

If a true, from the heart, childood memory tale like that doesn't get better than a Sprengers 'Google sarcasm forum post' reply, then I give up... _________________ 'Impatience for victory only guarantees defeat' - Louis XIV |

I was going to comment but then saw Darrens post and was too confused to reply.
Thought Higgins story was excellent. |
