Of course they would but unfortunately life isn't quite that straight forward and you can get knocked out of a Europa League group and not finish top four and then not taking the competition seriously backfires on you. Or you can take the competition seriously and still make top four and the predicted negative effect of playing extra games never materialises.
Spurs have a big enough squad to handle both competitions and they also had good enough sides on the pitch in the group games that they played but they didn't do the job. Spurs didn't go into that competition with the intention of being knocked out of it. _________________ Poker columnist at www.poker.co.uk |

Looking like three poor seasons, the coefficients are calculated over five, could be losing the 4th CL spot. The Europa League also counts towards the coefficient. Come on Stoke!
edit: Maybe not, we've been in top 2 for each of the last 5 seasons. |

I knew that was coming
For the record Nemesis......Arsenal WERE capable of beating Milan of which the match odds from all of the major betting firms can confirm. It is easy to say that they were never capable after seeing a 4-0 thumping but they just had a bad day at the office. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.......shame you didn't post that BEFORE the game.
My earlier post referred to Arsenal not being capable of winning the trophy which is also wrong because it is a cup competition but what I should have said was "highly unlikely" but they had a clear chance against Milan before this tie and you should know it if you take your Spurs coloured glasses off for a sec _________________ Poker columnist at www.poker.co.uk |

| Gary Neville's commentary demonstrated he hasn't watched any Italian football since CH4 stopped showing Serie A. |

Of course they are, results over the past year have proved that. They will probably not win the event but they are dark horses for sure. I think Chelsea are really struggling now despite the away goal. A lot depends how Napoli treat the second leg. If they sit back and defend then Chelsea have a chance but if they go for Chelsea then I think they will score at the Bridge. _________________ Poker columnist at www.poker.co.uk |

Depends on how you look at league tables which don't always tell the true story when assessing chances in cups. Napoli have only lost one game more than the leaders Milan and have a goal difference that isn't substantially worse than the leaders. But they have drawn too many games to be contending for the title similar to Barcelona in La Liga at this time. But drawn games in two legged cup ties don't have the same handicap especially if the draw comes in the away game or even a 0-0 at home.
League football and cup football are totally different and a side that sets themselves up to be difficult to beat may drop points in the league but go very deep in cups. Napoli have played very well and one cannot really argue the point. Also league positions are season long averages which can be wildly skewed based on teams going through sticky periods during some part of the season but who could now be playing at a level akin to the league leaders. _________________ Poker columnist at www.poker.co.uk |
