| Sigh. You have to give it to Murdoch for his business nous. Changing the name of something does not mean shutting it down. I'm selling % of staff that will change at 2%, in case some retire during the rebranding. |

I'm with all of you - The Sun, NOTW etc - all parts of what I see as an evil empire. I don't know how they can sleep at night with the tactics they use.
Also - when was the last time a UK general election was won by a party that was NOT being bigged up by NI's empire? Democracy it ain't - the hordes would vote for a trained monkey if Murdoch wanted them to. The fact that any successful party has to cosy up to Murdoch is the reason the laws are unlikely ever to be a strong deterrent against their awful methods
I hate what they've done to football as well. _________________ UTO |

Not that I expected better, but Ed Milland's comments that 'Rebekah Wade should consider her position' couldn't be more pathetic. She should be thrown in jail, but she was only doing exactly what she was being paid by News International/Murdoch to do. Milliband is still trying to cosy up to Murdoch by suggesting the buck stops at her. |

I've no idea as to the veractity of this article but:
According to British media law star Mark Stephens of Finers Stephens Innocent (whom The Times of London has dubbed “Mr Media”), Rupert Murdoch’s soon-to-be shuttered tabloid may not be obliged to retain documents that could be relevant to civil and criminal claims against the newspaper—even in cases that are already underway. That could mean that dozens of sports, media, and political celebrities who claim News of the World hacked into their telephone accounts won’t be able to find out exactly what the tabloid knew and how it got the information.
If News of the World is to be liquidated, Stephens told Reuters, it “is a stroke of genius—perhaps evil genius.”
http://blogs.reuters.com/mediafile/20...tabloids-records/
I'd also point out that Ed Milliband's spouting that Wade/Brookes needs to consider her position is the most craven sucking up to News International/Murdoch. He is effectively saying that it was only as serious that it needs the person in charge to consider resigning (as opposed to being thrown in jail) and that the buck stops with her, when she was merely doing exactly what she was paid to do by her employers.
And no I'm not a fan of Cameron either.

Undemocratic to allow the mass media to publish the lies that they do, I agree, but.....
Murdoch isn't stupid, one of the few things he can't be accused of. I certainly think he influences votes, but I don't believe he has quite the influence the fetid sputum that make up the majority of the Labour/Conservative parties think he does. It's very much in his interests to be on the side of the party that comes to power; he will change allegiance to the party he believes will win regardless of whether he wants them to win or not. |

As I understand it, this all happened when Labour were in power and now they are trying to make political capital out of it.

Some of the stuff written in this thread by Rev and Indy is ironically so tabloidy!
You don't have to agree with Ed Milliband's politics, or even like him, but at least have a clue what he stands for and what he's saying on an issue before publicly slating him. When you don't you're no better then the people this thread started out having a go at. |

I try my best
I just find it really uncomfortable watching Milliband trying to make political points on the back of a young dead girls phone being hacked. Although in reality the politicians probably care more about the BSKYB deal than Milly Dowler. |

It's his job as leader of the opposition to get out there on the big issues and he obviously wants his party to be in government after the next election. What else can he do? Plus it is possible he actually did think it was terrible what happened at News International and that people should be held to account.
If you're going to say he's just making political points on the back of a young dead girls phone being hacked and such like then you're basically saying politicians can't say much on so many issues.
The posting of old pictures of Ed Milliband with the Sun and saying he was cosying up to Murdoch were the main things I was talking about anyway. If you knew anything about what Milliband has been saying recently you would know he's not cosying up to Murdoch. If you guys were journalists you'd be working for The Sun. |
