It's November in Dublin, so it's time to start thinking about the Irish Open again! The satellites have been running on Paddy Power Poker for a few weeks (I had a shot at the 1st one but no luck, will wait a few weeks until my bankroll complies before trying again!) and the 100,000 Sole Survivor online qualifier promo is running again - however, the big news from PPP concerns a long-overdue improvement to the main event structure (people have been criticising this for a few years now), some details from the PPP press release:
The Irish Open 2011 will take place from 22 25 April 2011 in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin, Ireland. The buy-in for this event is set at 3,200 + 300 and players will see a radical change to the structure in that the starting stack will increase from 10,000 to 20,000 chips.
The event will once again feature a 100,000 Sole Survivor promotion meaning that the longest lasting paddypowerpoker.com qualifier in the Irish Open 2011 will win 100,000 in addition to any event prize money they may be awarded.
A full schedule of side events for the Irish Open 2011 will be announced in due course.
Full details of the Irish Open 2011 can be found at: http://www.irishpokeropen.com/.
I'll be sent more details whenever they are announced and will add to the thread; I'm guessing after the success of the Irish Winter Festival that similar efforts will go into the entertainment aspect of the Irish Open festival and the side events may change from last year. I'll also get a full structure up whenever it is released. |

I've been sent a press release from PPP - they are running an Irish Open 2011 Cheap Seats promotion in which players can play 2 or 4 NLH rebuy tournies and win 200 seats in a fortnightly grand final tournie, which serves as a direct sat to the Irish Open itself. These Cheap Seat qualifiers started yesterday (Nov 17th) and will run all the way until early April 2011.
Think I'll stick to the regular qualifying routes but these might interest some I guess! |

Well, the full schedule for the Irish Open 2011 has been announced by PPP - not a huge amount of change from last year, though I think they are trying to attract some more casual players by introducing some 'turbo' events:
Irish Poker Open 2011 Full Schedule:
Thursday 21 April
- Super Satellite 200 + 20
Friday 22 April
- Irish Open Main Event (4 day event) 3,200 + 300
Saturday 23 April
- PLO Championship (2 day event) 750 + 75
- Turbo 300 NLH Freezeout 300 + 30
Sunday 24 April
- Ladies Championship (2 day event) 300 + 30
- 1000 Freezeout (2 day event) 1000 + 100
- Turbo 200 NLH Freezeout 200 + 20
Monday 25 April
- NLH Scalps 270 + 30 + 30 15:00
The five day-long festival of poker, which will take place in the Burlington Hotel from Thursday 21st April Monday 25th April 2011, includes a growing number of side events each year providing variety for all types of poker player.
The Irish Open Main Event, a 3,200 + 300 NLH Freezeout, will kick-off at 2:00pm on Friday 22nd April and run for four days when the Irish Open 2011 Champion will be crowned on Monday 25th April. Ahead of the Main Event, a 200 + 20 NLH Re-buy Super Satellite will take place at 7:00pm on Thursday 21st April, giving people a last minute chance to win their seat in the headline event.
Also included in the schedule of events are a 750 + 75 Pot Limit Omaha Championship, 1,000 + 100 NLH Freezeout, 300 + 30 Ladies NLH Championship, Turbo 300 + 30 NLH Freezeout, Turbo 200 + 20 NLH Freezeout and finally a 270 + 30 + 30 NLH Scalps Freezeout.
Players can register and pay for all events via the online payment system which is available at www.irishpokeropen.com/register. This gateway facilitates both individual and cardroom registrations with payment possible via credit card, bank transfer and cheque.
The Irish Open schedule has grown year on year and 2011 is no different. We have added two new Turbo events this year, bringing the total number of tournaments to 8 within the 5 day poker festival. Wallets are tighter than ever so we are offering a few lower buy in tournaments to the Irish Open schedule so that everyone can get involved and enjoy the electric atmosphere that is unique to the Irish Open. said Paddy Power, Communications Manager for paddypowerpoker.com. We are also delighted to launch the online registration facility for the Irish Open. Last year we attracted 708 players in the main event and we dont have room for many more, so get in their early and secure your seat in Europes longest running poker event.
Weekly super satellites to the Irish Open 2011 Main Event take place every Sunday and Tuesday with a variety of feeders running daily. Players who qualify for the Irish Open 2011 on paddypowerpoker.com will be eligible for the Sole Survivor promotion where the longest lasting paddypowerpoker.com qualifier at the Irish Open will win a massive 100,000 in addition to their tournament prize money! |

Well, I've been sent some more information on the Irish Open by the organisers:
1) During every Monday in January (and possibly into February and March) at 8pm Paddy Power Poker will run a 20 rebuy MTT into the Irish Open, with a least one ticket guaranteed. Those already run this month have featured pretty tasty overlays!
2) They are now also running Ticket-Only super satellites on Thursday evenings at 8pm, with one ticket into the IO for every 3,500 in the prizepool and two tickets guaranteed starting from tonight - these are probably of most interest to local players but I thought everyone might as well be aware of them; they will be my preferred method of getting into the IO anyhow.
3) The Tuesday night 60 rebuy Full-Package super sats now also guarantees two packages each week (these start at 8pm as well). |

PPP have confirmed with me that the Monday night 20 rebuy ticket-only sats are now going to run until April 18th, with one ticket guaranteed each night (and obviously additional tickets for each additional 3,500 in the prize pool). |

Some more IO 2011 info:
paddypowerpoker.com has extended its VIP rewards programme to include a range of Irish Open 2011 event entries. The Irish Open seats are offered at discounts ranging from 18% 59% compared to the standard exchange value in the paddypowerpoker.com VIP scheme. Furthermore, anyone who purchases an Irish Open main event seat in our VIP store will be eligible for the Sole Survivor promotion where they could be the lucky winner of 100,000 this April.
All the details / cost of the IO tickets in points are here:
http://www.paddypowerpoker.com/vip/home/#ior
Basically, if you purchase your seat at any of the IO 2011 events with Paddy Points, you'll be getting the seat at a discount, and if you purchase a IO Main Event seat (3,500) the discount is 59% compared to the normal exchange value of the points (according to PPP, I haven't run the numbers myself!) |
