Post subject: Hold Em Manager and PostGre SQL HELP!!
Add User to Ignore List Reply with quote

Ive installed hol-em manager and PostGre SQL. When I start hold em up it asks me to connect to a postgre sql database. I click connect and it asks me to create a new database, it then comes up with the following error

"new encoding is incopatible with the encoding on this database template"

Any ideas?

create your own thread on the hold 'em manager forum. These errors can be a right PITA. The people over there will tell you some things to try and one of them will work.

I found this if its any use. Theres probably a new version out of postgre make sure you have the latest and correct version.

PostgreSQL has got pretty strict recently about enforcing encoding
compatibility. If you need to create an SQL_ASCII database from a
UTF-8 cluster, you'll need to use template0 as the template database,
eg:

CREATE DATABASE mydb TEMPLATE template0;

You can also do that in pgAdmin, by selecting template0 as the
template in the create database dialog.

I should also point out that you've downloaded a beta version of
PostgreSQL, which is not guaranteed to be stable, nor will it
necessarily be possible to upgrade to later releases. For production
use, you should use PostgreSQL 8.8.7 which is the current stable
release.

Doesn't matter what software, HEM or PT3 - they both use postgres.

I've had problems in the past. Don't know a solution other than to reinstall it.

But I do recommend you installing it on an external drive as it is resource hungry.

What good will that do other than slow your disk access time?

Because it can be resource intensive. I'm not a techie but I read that somewhere, and it's worked for me.

Another added advantage is if you want to play on a different computer. I like to play on my desktop, and sometimes on the laptop.

I am a techie external drive good for using on different computer. Bad for resource intenisty and as above slower access time.
