Liked my first table, couple of decent players couple of fish, generally easy to work out where you were, and had LukeC from the forum (who finished 3rd) on my left.
Folded A K preflop in the small blind to a raise and a reraise on the third hand, I was sure I was up against queens or better. Opponent I was worried about duly showed queens, which held up nicely on the QT5 flop against the poor bugger with a set of tens.
Got very lucky twice, reraising all-in against a looser player when I had K J . In my defence I was calling for a ten from the start when he showed pocket kings and I rivered it to make the broadway straight. Also hit a set of nines when up against tens when all-in 3 way preflop, although the tens' play was fairly reckless, and not sure I would have got all my chips in in that position myself. Can't say I have any misgivings over my play in either of those hands.
Ended up going out shoving with T6 and was very surprised, given how tight I was playing, being called by A 9 - hit the pair on the flop the turn came the ace.
Great atmosphere anyhow, really enjoyed it and nice to meet Dan/Si/Gary. Shame one of us couldn't take it down as Gary and Simon went very deep too.
Some more in the kitty for the next syndicate anyhow....... ended up sixth I think for £490.
I must have had the worst of it - bad beat city for me with pocket aces cracked pre flop for 60k pot by K8 and then someone called my 60k all in pre flop with Q9 and hit a house. Went out 10th!
69 players, £8950 prize pool compared with 68 players and £7800 last week.
3 Mobsters on final table + 1 mobster not in the THMF V
So therefore you guys have enough for £545, however I will boost it back to £575 so another 5 can play next week (subject to your boss Joe's approval of course!)
Well played guys and it was a pleasure meeting you all.
Structure is fixed as it is now, as mentioned before - no further changes will be made.
I will post a couple of hands later for comment but just wanted to thank THM for funding me to play in this event. It was good to see so many of the 5+2? doing well with 4 on the final table (3 from the original 5). WP Rob for lasting longest of the 5 and to Simon who also cashed.
I finally cashed in 7th for £400 but this was due in part to one lucky suck out against probably the best player at my table all evening. I raised from the Cut off with KJ, he calls from the SB with QQ, flop check check, Turn J, all the chips go in, river K, oops sorry, gg, wp.
I convinced 5 friends to come down, all of whom regularly play good standard poker, I believe they all enjoyed the evening although they were unanimous that the structure needs one more level earlier on, the jump after the first break is too high. (Phil, appreciate you can't please everyone, just wanted to voice an opinion).
Thanks to Phil and his team who did another excellent job running the event, I am sure I will be back to play in more of these events.
Well played guys, I made a dubious call with AQs to lose half my chips with 26 left, eventually getting my chips in the pot in very bad shape
Should have done better and a bit annoyed with myself
Did the same thing at the vic before and bubbled that
Enjoyed it none the less and well played the four of you that made the final table, shame we didn't get higher places and I believe the suck out merchant kept on getting his chips in bad and went on to win the tournament.
unlucky phil, took some horrible hits, better luck next time and thanks for your hard work
I had fun but sorry I couldn't have done better for the home team.
Eventually went out after a mild come back with a4 all in pre called by 10 7 sooted (the break was supposed to have started but then they played 3 more hands and you can guess the rest I didn't mind really as the blinds would have been going up but more to take down pre.
I will post a few hands when I get time. had nearly 2K at that point didn't want to open as I obviously had to call all in and the players where likely to flat my raise and then lead out and I then I have at least 1/3 of my chips already in the pot . lost a flip for a decent pot with 10 10 vs a kQ. The tens was my best starting hand. I must have had qj about 8 times and played it every way possible.
Folded 44 to raise re-raise in cash game and three guys got all of there money in on the flop and yeah would of hit a set and then boat. One guy had ak trips another had flush another had straight. Can't really call there out of position for like 17quid. rake was weird started out 3 handed zero rake then they switched it to 3 quid per person every 30 minutes.
gg anyone that cashed off to bed now
Appreciated the opportunity thanks mob.
and would like to point out I never played qj to a raise and folded 75% of them
