Forgive any lack of poker terminology in this post however I would still welcome suggestions or pointers.
Once a month 8 or 9 of us gather for a non-rebuy game £20 a head game of NLTH'M.
So with a prize money total of £160-£180 how would you split it. Let me antipate some of the suggestions by saying few of the group are brave enough to play winner takes all.
We've now moved on alternate months to a rebuy game with a potential kitty of £240-£270. How would you divi that up at the end of the game |

Thanks for the replies so far. My own feelings are that only the top 2 should get rewarded in an 8 handed game with the winner receiving 70-75% of the pool money.
Even with 9 playing I feel that a 50% share of the kitty is rather small for all the effort being put into winning. 50% of £180 is £90 which is only a 7/2 shot.If it was left to me I would not reward 3rd place
Just for information our game on Saturday night past was a rebuy, 9 players with a total kitty of £250. 1st got £185, 2nd £45 and 3rd £20.
As the player with time on his hands and also "mine host" I tend to put forward suggestions/proposals by email to the other players and invite replies (You cannot do this on the night because drink starts to impede rational thoughts) Some will give me input , others don't and it tends to be the non-repliers who complain about the carve up of the money |

What?
If I was playing at that game I would be pretty pissed with that structure payout. It looks to me like you want a winner take all game. Thats fine but dont make retarded prize structures that makes a very weak attempt to conceal that.
As for a prize structure for when your 8 handed personally I think it depends on what your looking to get out of the game. If your a bunch of mates having a laugh and goofing off with some cards 50/30/20 isnt bad at all really. If your looking for something slightly more serious/or pay only 2 people then I would suggest 65/35. |

Thanks for your reply. I don't think I'm clever enough to make what you call "retarded prize structures" whatever they may be.However as I've previously stated some of us don't think 50% of a pot is very much for 3-4 hours toil. You could make more in a couple of hours at the bookies.
Not everyone is friends with everyone else eg my son and a few of his pals, my mate and one of his work colleagues that kind of thing.
Whilst there is an element of fun it's also still about playing for some hard cash which to my mind and the mind of others should provide a decent return to the winner.
Maybe it's my inexperience but I cannot get my head round a winner getting 50% of a £180 kitty and the runner up getting as much as 30%.
Some very interesting and thought provoking replies so far.
Thanks to all |

well if your so set on the top 2 cashing why ask?
i would suggest a 65/35 or 70/30 if your playing 8 handed and your set on it being played top 2!

For this ^^ a 70/30 structure pays out 1st=£175 2nd= £75
a 50/30/20 pays 1st=£125 2nd=£75 3rd=£50
upto you but for 9 handed i still think a 50/30/20 is more fair, but it is your touney so your the one with the decisions! _________________ #whenwillitend |

Many thanks for your comments. All down the line I have sought the views of the other players, outlined a range of choices and gone by the majority vote. Trying to get a yardstick on whether it should be 65,25,10% or 50, 30,20%, winner takes all or even some other choice has not been easy. How many choices do you offer and even if you offered 50 choices to pick from someone is going to be miffed. I know one particular player who would opt for prize money down to 8th place in a field of 8 if given the ridiculous choice
Quite frankly I'm in favour of the takes all even though I am not one of the regular winners.
Although I am mine host I have not imposed any rules regarding prize money nor would I without seeking the views of all the regular players |

another suggestion is just to change it up every week so everyone gets a feel for all the different structures then when youve gone trough 4/5 structures decide then, atleast if you have 1/2 that dont agree you can still tweek it to suit as many people as possible, very likely that everyone wont agree but just tell them to put up or go find somewhere else to play
btw to the person that suggested pay down to 8, id shoot them tbh!!!!! _________________ #whenwillitend |
