OH GAWD i dont normally disagree with Reg but i dont want Richie to win, i thisnk like his dad hes gonna be an aquired taste, and i dont like his dad so im pretty sure im not gonna like him.
He has come across to me after his matches as giving off an air of arrogance, hope im worng and hes probably a nice lad but he just seems to be talking like an old school darts player, afaik this is his first major televised tourney and hes talking like hes been there 10 yrs.

Cant exactly get richie rich in the BDO these days

Virtually everyone uses the BDO as a stepping stone to the PDC. What's the prize at Lakeside this year, a gallon of ale?

The move across to the PDC cannot possibly work for everyone......otherwise the BDO would have no decent players. There has to be a pivot point somewhere because the standard is that much higher in the PDC that it has to better for some players to stay where there are depending on individual ability

No point in going to the PDC if you can't even make the latter stages of any tournaments because your ratio of wins to losses isn't high enough. Steve Davis remarked a few weeks ago that his strike rate in snooker of matches won wouldn't have been anywhere near what it was in the 80's because the standards are so much higher these days and he was honest enough to say that he wouldnt have had the same number of titles and prize money.

I think some players (not all) are jumping ship expecting to get the same pot of gold that others have had. Winning the BDO was 100k last year iirc.

Its almost like listening to his dad......give him a few more years.

Credit to him though......must be tough having such a huge character as a father and such a huge name in darts

I agree it must be tough living in his dads shadow, but imagine how much harder it would have been if his dad was a Jocky Wilson, Eric Bristow, or a John Lowe.

First prize is 100k but this is their flagship event by a country mile
here is Tony oshea's 2012 results to give u an idea of what a half decent player can win in the BDO

He said after he beat Jimmy Hendriks (on BBC highlights) that he has been training with James Wade and Colin Lloyd (both PDC) so he will no doubt get an idea if its a good idea to switch (down the line)

Richie is training with the best so he's got an advantage there straight away
He reminds me of the young protege off the Minder episode who Arfur tried to get rich on the back of Mr. Green

I can't see Richie moving to away from the BDO in the short term but maybe one for the future. Hoping he does the business in this one, but maybe a Waites or O'Shea win?
