This promises to be one of most interesting final tables of the WSOP thus far. Chip leader Gavin Smith is shooting for his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet after three phenomenal years on the poker tournament circuit. He is expected to attract a large and rowdy crowd.
While each finalist has an interesting story, a few players stand out: Dr. Bruce Van Horn is making his sixth WSOP final table appearance (lifetime). He was most famous for being the runner-up in the 1996 main event to Huck Seed. He won $585,000 that year.
Jon Freiberg is going for gold bracelet number two. He won over half a million for his win at last year’s World Series
Should either Van Horn or Freiberg win, they would join one of poker’s most prestigious clubs. A victory gives either player over a million-dollars in lifetime earnings at the WSOP,
Finalist Marco Traniello has the somewhat shadowy status of being married to one of the best poker players in the world, wife Jennifer Harman. However, it is Traniello who has outperformed just about everyone at WSOP over the past two years. Traniello cashed a whopping seven times at the 2005 World Series. He cashed four times in 2006. Now with a guaranteed cash in this event, Traniello has a combined total of 12 WSOP cashes dating back to the start of the 2005 WSOP. No other poker player has more.
