Under the Weather

World Series of Poker, Las Vegas
It’s always nice to hit the final of any event but the world championships are something special. The monster fields and huge buy-ins guarantee massive prize pools. Then you have the razzmatazz of all the TV cameras and journalists surrounding the final table in a stadium which holds over a hundred people to add an even greater atmosphere. It was about 4am before the last hand was dealt on day one of the no limit holdem with rebuys and it already felt like I’d done enough to win a tournament. However, thirteen remained and as I looked around Howard Lederer, Daniel Negreanu, John Juanda and Mike(the mouth)Matusow were some of the big names still in.
Now it was just a case of getting back to the house and having a good nights sleep in preparation for the big day ahead. But things didn’t go to plan and after an hour’s sleep I felt my stomach exploding. Somehow I’d managed to catch some bug and found myself vomiting about fifteen times before it was time to leave for the casino. As we got underway I felt a little better especially when I won a couple of pots but I made sure my girlfriend was standing by with a plastic bag just in case! I finally finished 7th going out ina pot against Daniel Negreanu who eventually finished 3rd.
Meanwhile in the Pot Limit Omaha the boys were all going well. 147 started and with 4 tables left Barny Ross and Joe were still in. Joe finsihed 19th - one before the money. Dave Colclough went into todays final with good chips - good luck Dave!
