Great to be Part of It

The Irish Winter Tournament 2003, Dublin
As the main event started last night I sat down, wished everyone good luck and settled into my chair. Many thoughts entered my head as I looked around the room, some of which I’d like to share (no poem today so you’ll have to settle for that). Everywhere I looked there were sponsorship logos hanging from the walls and on players clothing, then there was the added prize money, then there were the special appearances from the snooker players; Dennis Taylor, Matthew Stevens and current world champion, Mark Williams. All of them seemed very eager and happy to be involved. Then there were all the new faces. Every time I play in a tournament these days there seems to be a couple of new players that I’ve never played with before. Big things are happening in the world of poker right now, not just for the Mob, but for everyone involved in the game and it’s great to be part of it.
As for the tournament there were 125 entrants with 25 rebuys. First prize is Euro 62,000 and other players left in include Lucy Rokach (chip leader), Keith ‘The Camel’ Hawkins, Paddy Curly Hicks, George McKeever and Mark Williams.
Ross and Barny remain as well, both holding average chips going into the last two tables which starts again at 5 o’clock today. Just to finish I would like to thank Liam Flood and the rest of his crew for running another great festival at Merrion Square at what must be one of the friendliest venues in the world.
