Mob League Event #4 - Tuesday 3rd May 2005

The field was back up to 59 for the fourth Mob Forum League event despite the lure of the Champions League semi-final, with several new entrants to the league playing in their first tournament. Barny, Joe and Ross were all in attendance with $100 bounties on their heads, sponsors Stan James again adding $500 to the prize pool as well.

P0kermo took an early lead winning a big pot when all-in with A K against happybhoy Q, Q and hencole's KK and making his flush sending happybhoy out and leaving hencole on just 800 chips. Ross was also making some early progress when he doubled up with J, 3 in the big blind and pushed all-in on the turn with two pair, brother Barny was not so lucky though. Timster123 all-in with him and showing down a full house, sadly for Timster though the 5 chips Barny had him covered by cost him $100 as btstorey finishes off the Mobster the next hand to claim the bounty. Angry_badger then makes himself popular with most by crippling league leader alanc who went out shortly after in 49th.

Still only in the second level, RupertE took a lead which he was to hold onto for some time. After winning several medium pots with aggressive play, rarely showing his cards, he was reraised by Criamulus from the big blind and all the chips quickly found their way into the middle. Criamulus has ladies and RupertE is in trouble with A Q, right up until the river when he gets the ace he needed. The very next hand THM-Reverend is left ruing his decision to slowplay his pocket rockets in the small blind. RupertE's K, 6 making trip sixes on the turn and when The Reverend calls his reraise on the river RupertE is up to 13,500. At the first break he still has the lead, the chip counts of the leaders being:

RupertE 15,145
Getariako 9750
Pommy 9380

Joe exits in 29th to HoneyMonster. With the blinds at 150/300 HoneyMonster makes it 1250 before the flop and Joe flat calls with A Q leaving himself 950 chips left. They both check a flop of 3 J K. The turn is 8 giving Joe a straight and flush draw and he pushes the rest of his chips in. HoneyMonster makes a brave call with pocket 4s but with a blank river they're good and he has $100 bonus with his chips.

After around one and three quarter hours of play we are into the points, danmonkey who had made the final table of the previous tournament being the last to leave empty handed, with Skalie the previous winner picking up 1 point for 20th after being knocked out by BlindRed. Scoobysnacks now has the lead with 25,000 with HoneyMonster temporarily in 2nd until he first doubles up Ross then runs into scoobysnacks' queens. The queens become a set and the set a full house and HoneyMonster is sent to the rail in 17th with scoobysnacks up to 35,000 and a dominating lead with 20,000 more than now 2nd place mrmoss.

Ross moves up into 3rd place, first taking out Getariako in 15th when both extremely short and all-in with hands which would normally be straight into the muck, and then Stackbasher in 14th. After THE_THIEF knocks out gingerbomb with pocket jacks play tightens up considerably and around half an hour passes without an elimination. Finally Lauren is knocked out and it's desperate stuff from DaMatrix who can't find a hand he wants to commit his last few chips with on the cash bubble. Down to 1000 chips and he posts the big blind. Mrmoss calls UTG and it looks like the table could gang up on poor DaMatrix to get the rest of them to the final but he's not out yet. On the other table short stacked Pommy pushes all-in with A, Q in late position and gmoneyAK decides correctly his cards are live and he has the chips to call from the big blind with 7, 5os. He makes a pair and sends Pommy out in 11th whilst DaMatrix makes two pair with his 5, 4 and quadruples up. After 2 hours and 35 minutes the remaining players are seated at the final table, the chip counts being:

THE_THIEF 30,420
scoobysnacks 22,435
RupertE 20,640
sixpac 18,575
Grumbledoox 18,160
gmoneyAK 12,925
RossBoatman 9,015
mrmoss 6,100
BlindRed 5,230
DaMatrix 4,000

GMoneyAK wins the first big pot at the final table. With the blinds at 600/1200. He limps in with pocket 9s and RupertE makes it 4,000 to play. Gmoney pushes and RupertE calls with A3. The 9s hold up and gmoney is up to 27,000 and Rupert down to 6,500. Gmoney then eliminates BlindRed in 10th with $29.62. He put his last chips in with A, 7 to find Gmoney with Q, Q. Meanwhile DaMatrix is still playing a Sklansky like waiting game and moves up a spot but after posting blinds is back down to 1,400 chips.

RupertE leaves in 9th spot with $59.25 when his pocket 3s run into pocket jacks and DaMatrix moves up another spot then trebles up his tiny stack when he gets jacks himself. Ross has allowed himself to be blinded down significantly in the meantime and is not quite as fortunate when he makes his stand, pushing in after GMoneyAK raises him from the small blind. Ross has A5 and GMoney has 10, 8 off but makes a pair of tens on the river to send Ross out in 8th with $79, minus the 5% for the other Mobsters of course.

Mrmoss is next to fall, sixpack taking him out after making just a pair of twos on an 8 high board to collect just short of $100 and then DaMatrix, having held on so long with no chips, pushes in with A, Q and is finished by Grumbledook who makes two pair with his A, 10. He can still be pleased having been all-in with 1,000 chips on the bubble to take 6th, $128 and 15 points.

Sixpac makes a good read to knock out THE_THIEF in 5th. With the blinds at 1k/2k THE_THIEF called on the button with J9. Sixpac raised to 7000 with A 2 and THE_THIEF called. The flop comes 6 3 A and THE_THIEF, living up to his name sets sixpac all-in for 14k more chips. Sixpac thinks hard and decides to call. The turn and river don't change a thing and THE_THIEF is $158 better off. With the blinds still at 1k/2k and 4 people left the stacks were as follows:

sixpac 57,010
gmoneyAK 33,295
Grumbledook 27,760
scoobysnacks 26,435

And the main concern of those remaining now seemed not to be survival but just to get their chips in as quickly as possible! After a tense start to the final table the end was brutally quick.

Grumbledook raised scoobysnacks' big blind to 8,000 with A T and scoobysnacks reraised all-in for 12,000 more with A 9. The board was rags and the kicker played, scooby took $187 for his trouble.

Gmoney made trip kings on a K, K, 9 flop and sixpac's pocket 8s were no good, he was out in 3rd for $246. Once it went heads up all the chips went straight in on the first hand with seemingly no pause for thought. Grumbledook had the chip lead but was behind when he showed A3 to Gmoney's A, Kos. The lead evaporated on the flop though when the 3 fell and the ace on the turn changed nothing. The river a blank saw Grumbledook take 20 points and $592 whilst a great performance from gmoneyAK was rewarded with $495 including his bounty and, after his very first league tournament, 13th place on the leaderboard just 3 points off the top 10. Alanc's lead at the top is cut to just 3 points with DaMatrix's hard fought 6th place moving him into 2nd.
