Maria Demetriou her 70k stack all-in pre-flop with K K against Rupinder Bedi’s A A. The 7 4 2 J J board spelled the end of her bid. She leaves in 18th with £1,200.

Chip leader bullying

Maria Demetriou makes a standard raise to about 10,000 in early position and Spencer Lawrence in the cut off says “well it worked last time” before throwing in 10 pink chips (50,000 total) which just covers Maria’s stack. She gives up the pot after a couple of seconds consideration.

The ladies are getting Scarcer

Lynne Beaumont got her chips in with well the best of it against Robert Plaistow, holding QQ against Plaistow’s AQ who spiked the ace on the river.

Maria Demetriou and Sue Scarce are the two remaining ladies in the field.

Squeezing a monster

Maria Demetriou raised to 1600 in late position and J. Burke called in the cut-off. Ordinarily this would be a nice opportunity for either the button or one of the blinds to make a squeeze play and pick up useful chips with a modest holding, so it’s no surprise when D. Nicolaou announces raise from the button. However, the size of the raise is surprising: another 9000 to play . The blinds get out of the way and fellow Greek Demetriou comments on the size of the raise before mucking. Burke follows suit. Nicolaou turns over A A and says “For you, Maria.” One suspects he might have lost some valuable business there.

Burke and Scare

Maria Demetriou made it 700 to go from middle position and was called by J. Burke on her immediate left and C. Tran on the button. A flop of K 6 7 was quickly checked around. Demetriou bet 1000 when 3 turned and only Burke called. She then checked the 5 river and Burke proferred 1800 chips. Demetriou groaned as she reluctantly counted out the call. However, Burke indicated the call was good and flipped over A J for the bluff. Demetriou’s Q Q were good for a nice pot.
