Monster pot for Matthews

Crazy action as Neil Stewart raises to 11000, John Welsh re-raises to 31000, Rory Matthews moves all in from the button and Rizwan Hussein joins in by shoving his last 10000 in as well.
The action is back to Neil Stewart who gets the rest of his chips in and there is a massive pot already as Welsh now has to decide. He already has a third of his chips invested in this pot but everyone is representing big big hands. After much shaking of the head he passes and we see the three remaining hands.
Stewart A K
Matthews A A
Hussein 6 8

The board fills up J 3 8 Q J Hussein’s call on the assumption that there would plenty of dead money has worked and he takes the main pot. It’s the side pot that contains all the chips though and Matthews’ aces win that.
John Welsh says he passed AK with the A

**** CORRECTION ****

Neil Stewart is NOT out, his ticket found its way to us but the player is still very much in the tournament.

A good opening break for Higgins

We were pleased to see our prediction that short-stacked John Higgins might not return for the final day’s action was wrong. He moved all-in on the button with 6 5 and was called by Neil Stewart on the big blind with K Q. A flop of 3 A J brought draws for both players but Higgins hit his first when 4 landed on the turn. The meaningless river was K and Higgins got a much-needed early double-up.
