Wu'd you believe it

Colin Wu raises from mid position and is called by Kai Paulsen on the button. The flop comes Q Q K and Wu checks to Paulsen who bets 500, about 2/3rds the pot. Colin Wu thinks for a short while before calling. The turn brings Q and again it’s checked to Paulsen, who throws in a thousand chip declaring a bet of 800. Again Wu calls. The river is a meaningless 2 and now it’s quickly checked by both players. Wu turns over pocket 7s and the aggressor, Kai Paulsen, quickly mucks his hand.

Entrants so far

Day 1A so far has 77 registrants but with entries still being accepted that may increase. Players choosing the first of the two starting days include Rob Akery, who finished 2nd in this event last year, leg winners Rupinder Bedi, Colin Wu and Neil Blatchley, Henning Granstad, Barny Boatman and Victoria Coren. Anthony Hames, who you may have seen rather more than you would have wanted to on TV show Sin Cities, is also playing.

Predictably....

Colin Wu moves all-in next hand and is in good shape when Tony Caygill calls with just 7 5 from the big blind. Wu has 8 9 which is much the same as big slick in the situation, but the board is not kind:

K 4 3 looks good to start but 7 7 send Colin Wu, Edinburgh champion, out in 6th place with £4800.

Colin Wu is down to 80,000

Anthony Arlot bets 70,000.
Colin Wu goes all-in and Arlot calls.
Arlot shows Q Q and Wu – J J.
The board is 9 10 5 9 and Q.
Colin Wu’s call left him with 80,000 and put Anthony Arlot on 570,000.

An All-in!

Blinds: 10,000/20,000 Ante: 2,000

Tony Caygill raises to 70,000 UTG. Colin Wu is in the SB and announces that he is all in for 214,000. Tony Caygill tanks for a few moments and then makes the call.

Colin Wu: K J

Tony Caygill: K T

The flop: J 3 T

Tony is in bad shape. He has to hit his two outer to knock Colin out.

The turn: 4

The river: 4

Colin Wu doubles up and is now on about 420,000

An All-in!

Blinds: 10,000/20,000 Ante: 2,000

Colin Wu is all-in!

All the other players’ fold and Colin takes down the blinds.

Caygill moves in.

After a button raise by Colin Wu to 60,000 – Caygill moves the biggest stack on the table into the middle (691,000). After a while, Wu folds and Caygill shows him the Ace.

Anthony Arlot doubles via Wu.

Arlot opens from UGT+1 for 55,000 and its folded to Colin Wu in late position who makes the call, the blinds get out of the way.

The flop comes 8 9 10 and Arlot moves in for 109,000.

After two minutes of thought, Wu makes the call and tables AJ for the straight draw.

Arlot shows Queens.

Turn 10

River. 10, giving Arlot a full house and doubling his stack.

The pot size was around 350,000.

Wu takes a stand

Colin Wu is not going to be run over by chip leader Richard Trigg. Trigg raises under the gun to 36,000 and Wu calls from the big blind. The flop comes:

8 A Q and Wu checks. Trigg bets 43,000 and now Colin Wu makes his raise, shoving forward around 120,000 in mostly pink 5000 chips. Trigg throws his cards in without a second thought.

Raymond Walton is eliminated

Raymond Walton and Colin Wu go all-in pre-flop.
Raymond holds 6 10.
Colin – K Q.
The board is 2 2 J 3 A and Wu brings more chips to his growing stack.
