Cockayne can be crowing

UTG+1 Peter Cockayne moves all in for 29,500. It’s folded to Antonio Esfandiari in the big blind who calls pretty quickly with pocket 7s. Peter turns over jacks and the board changes nothing.

Peter Cockayne up to around 63,000.

Magician makes Jennifer's chips vanish

Peter Cockayne limped in early position, Jennifer Tilly limped in the cut-off, Jitesh Thakker completed the small blind and Antonio Esfandiari checked his option. A flop of K T 4 was checked around. The turn was 2 and Esfandiari bet 6000 which Tilly called. The river was T and Esfandiari led out again, this time for 9000. Tilly went into the tank and eventually found the call. The Magician turned over T 6 and Tilly mucked in disgust. She is down to about 30000 having started the day as the chip leader.

Esfandiari works his magic on Tilly

Jennifer Tilly limped and Antonio Esfandiari raised another 6000. Tilly called and the flop came 6 3 2. Tilly led out for 7000 and Esfandiari went into the tank before raising an additional 25000. Now it was Tilly’s turn to think as the cameras descended on what was shaping up to be a big hand. Tilly asked for a count of Esfandiari’s remaining chips: 17400. After asking a few questions of the Magician, who kept a stony silence, she decided to fold. Esfandiari immediately shouted “get Phil!” (Laak, Jennifer Tilly’s boyfriend) as he proudly turned over A T.

Tilly uses her big stack

Jitesh Thakker limped in early position, as did Barny Boatman on the button. Andrew Mitson completed the small blind and Jennifer Tilly checked her option. The flop was K 5 4. Mitson checked, Tilly bet 2000 and Barny called. The turn was K and Tilly fired another 4000 into the pot. Barny muttered something and folded. Antonio Esfandiari asked Tilly if she would let her boyfriend Phil Laak play her stack, as the table would much prefer it.

Esfandiari takes two

Antonio Esfandiari raised to 2500 preflop and Paul Gourlay moved all-in. David Lloyd called, and Esfandiari was priced in. A J for the Magician, K K for Gourlay and 5 5 for Lloyd. A flop of Q 7 4 looked good for Gourlay, but the Magician pulled an A out of the hat on the turn leaving Gourlay drawing to a club and Lloyd to one of the two remaining fives. However, the Q on the river sent the two Brits to the rail and the American into the top five chip leaders.

Welcome back to Gala Harbourside

Day 2 proper will begin in around an hour with Jennifer Tilly, the only female entrant, leading the pack of 53 remaining players with 74,100 chips. In 2nd place is Rob Akery. WSOP Main Event winner Jamie Gold hasn’t made it, nor have top pros Robert Williamson or Ram Vaswani. Other well known players who will be joining us today though are Joe Beevers, sitting 4th in chips with 54,950, Charalambous Xanthos on 36,800. Further down the field but still with average stacks are Barny Boatman, Antonio Esfandiari and Roland de Wolfe.

Benedetto Passantino, Stuart Rutter and Pete Singleton may need to make some early moves, whilst Jani Johansson will return with a single 500 value chip.

Antonio makes a 'world class' laydown.

Paul Gardner limps under the gun for 400, Antonio Esfandiari makes in 2,800 in middle position and then Neil Channing makes it 7,000 to go. Paul passes pretty quickly and Antonio thinks for a short while before throwing in AK face up. “A world class laydown” says Neil, completely sincere by the sound of it.

Neil upto 38,000, Antonio down to about 9,000, although he wins the next pot to bump himself up to just over 10.
