News & Reports

Dick out

Richard Lapwood raises to 16,000 from the button and John Dick pushes the last of his chips in from the small blind. Lapwood calls the 8,000 more and the cards are on their backs.
Lapwood has 10 K whilst Dick has Q 9
Lapwood goes well ahead on the flop of 4 K J and now Dick needs Lapwood to pair his other card. The J 5 are no good for him though and John Dick is eliminated.

Wu puts the squeeze on

Phil Scott raised to 18k in late position and John Lynch peeled off a call on the button. Big blind Colin Wu re-raised another 40k and Scott went into the tank. He knew he was getting squeezed but did he want to make a stand with his hand. The answer was no. He folded and Lynch quickly mucked behind. Another risk-free pot for Wu.

Hussein toppled

We’ve been playing hand for hand and unsurprisingly Rory Mathews on the big stack has been putting in several raises.
He makes it 16,000 from the button and Rizwan Hussein calls from the small blind. After Nick Wright folds his big blind we see a flop of 5 6 4
Hussein checks and Mathews goes all in. That is called straight away by Hussein with 4 7 . Mathews does actually have a hand but he needs to avoid several outs. The Q Q of Mathews holds up as the turn and river are both jacks.
Hussein out.

Starrs out tonight

Phil Starrs raises to 25,000 pre-flop which is most of his stack. Robin Yiltalo moves in behind him and after everyone else folds, Starrs has to make the call.
Starrs shows A 9 whilst Yiltalo has J J

8 3 8 4 5 sees Starrs eliminated and we are on the bubble.

Level Up!

The blinds are now 3000/6000 with a 600 running ante. Or they will be when the players return from dinner.

Wilsons extinct

Karen Wilson raised to 12k under the gun. It was folded to John Lynch in the small blind who told Wilson “You’ve been awfully quiet” before peeling off two pink chips. Both players checked a T J 6 flop. The turn was Q and Wilson checked to Lynch, who threw in six pinks: 30k. Wilson quickly moved all-in and Lynch called even more quickly. He had A K for the nuts and Wilson was drawing to three outs for a split with A Q. The river was a brick and Karen was the last of the Wilson clan to exit the tournament, three off the money.

DeMarco looking for a double up

He moves his last 17200 in pre-flop and it folds to Rory Matthews in the big blind who ponders a little before calling. DeMarco tells him it’s a good call and shows 10 Q . Matthews’ A J is ahead but DeMarco’s luck is in. 3 9 6 4 7 gives him the flush and keeps him alive.

Coonan forced to fold again

Jamie Coonan raised to 12k in early position and small blind Richard Lapwood set him all-in. Coonan mucked pocket eights face up.

Higgins snookers Wilson

In a battle of the blinds, John Higgins raised 8k and Karen Wilson called. Both checked a 5 J 9 flop. Higgins bet 15k when Q turned and Wilson called before Higgins could even count out his chips. Despite Wilson’s apparent confidence, Higgins moved all-in for 38.5k when 8 hit the river. Wilson gave the matter considerable thought before folding.

Stewart out

He only had a few thousand left after that giant pot and he now joins the rail.
