The Final Leg in Season 1 of the South Region took place Grosvenor Casino, Bournemouth where a very respectable 178 entries brought the first Season to a great finish. As players get to fully comprehend everything that is good about this Series of poker Events the popularity has grown within the Region and over the 4 events the average attendance has been in excess of 200 creting an average prize pool of over 340,0000 per event. Brighton in December of last year, the first in the newly established South region attracted 165 entries and a P.P. of £33,000..not to shabby at all. Next up was Southampton in January where 191 entries saw a great increase in the P.P. to £38,200. G Casino, Portsmouth hosted leg 3 and we were hopeful of a further growth. But no one was expecting a MASSIVE field of 264 entries and a whopping £52,800 with a first prize of £14,520. So we now move into Season 2 with our first stop in Southampton which attracted 191 entries last time...can it yet again go through the 200 mark...time will tell but I have a funny feeling it will.

Leg 1 of Season 2 will be followed by a further three events as listed below.

Leg 2 - 22nd – 24th G Casino Portsmouth
Leg 3 - 26th – 28th G Casino Brighton
Leg 4 - 31st Oct – 2nd Nov Grosvenor Casino, Bournemouth

On a lovely weekend on the South coast and with lots of poker events going on throughout the UK, Southampton managed a very respectable 161 entries, making a prize pool of £32,200.

A deal was done with 4 players remaining, guaranteeing the chip leader at the time Jim Royan £5,500 and the other 3 players Colin MacAndrew, Tom Murray and Shaun Conning £5,000 each. Congratulations to Colin MacAndrew who then went on to take home the additional £1,850, the trophy and the title after a hard fought heads-up battle with Jim Royan.

Thank you to all the staff here, especially Mike and Steve for officiating. Also thanks to all the Southampton Grosvenor staff including the poker room staff, dealers and valets, who have all been fabulous. Thanks also go to the circuit dealers, who as always have been superb.

Well done to everyone for making this another great event in the South region. The next 25/25 Series leg in the South will take place in Portsmouth on the weekend of 22nd-24th August 2014 (August Bank Holiday weekend) and I will be making the trip down here again to cover that one.

The next 25/25 Series events will take place on the weekend of 8th-10th August in both Birmingham and Edinburgh. As always updates will be available on www.aworldofpoker.com.

This coming week it’s the GUKPT in Reading. Full details here http://www.gukpt.com/events/2014-events/

And then it’s the Goliath in Coventry from Sun 10th August! See you there!

Our 25/25 Southampton champion Colin MacAndrew
