I'm not great in the sun either - when it's over 100 any more than a 10 minute walk outside really doesn't feel good.
The main places you're probably want to play tournaments at are Rio, Ceasars and Venetian. Be careful about the rake if you're playing tournaments smaller tournaments at other places. With these tournaments you get a ton of chips early but then the blinds go up quickly in the later levels. WSOP 1K and 1.5K events are the other way around - a low starting stack, but if you chip up early a slower structure later. Here is a good summary of tournaments this year:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/cc...blpRM2hHNlE#gid=0
I'd want to go for at least a week as you're going to be jetlagged for the first couple of days. I usually stay at 2 different hotels to be in different locations and have different food options (stay at the cheaper place on the weekend). Imperial palace is a good option, although this year I avoided the IP,Harrahs,Flamingo area due to the Linq construction work. Here is a good site for comparing rates at the Harrahs properties:
https://www.totalrewards.com/hotel-res...MarketCalendar.do
With a total rewards card the rates come down. Also there is no cancellation fee so you can lock in a rate and then cancel and rebook if the rate comes down. |

1: Where is the best value place to stay and how much will it cost me?
2: When am i best to book flights and how much should i look at paying?
3: How many $$'s can i take in physical cash?
4: What similar tourneys is there but with more normal person buy in's?
5: Do i have to fill out any paperwork so i dont have to pay tax on any thing if i manage to win?
6: When is best to go? Beginning/Middle/End of the series |
1 - As others have said, IP for cheapness. If you want to stay somewhere where the air-con works, and doesn't sound like a jet taking off (which rules out Bills) - look a notch up, which will encompass Mirage, TI, Flamingo (no point going the Southern end of the Strip). I'd just book whichever one is the cheapest at the time of booking. My 2 weeks there cost about £820 pp at TI (3 sharing) - plus a resort fee, but this covered wifi so was bearable. Flamingo would probably be the cheapest, reckon you could get it for £700-750 total or so.
2 - I heard a rumour Wednesday is the quietest day for airlines, so logic would dictate it was cheapest too...
3 - No idea. A few k easily - but I'd split between cash and a prepaid currency card.
4 - $65 upwards everywhere. Caesars, Venetian, Rio, Wynn all have series' on at that time, plus Binions and Golden Nugget downtown. Rio, Venetian or the Nugget FTW.
5 - I've had to show my passport for $3-4k wins, that's all.
6 - End seems to have more of the lower buy-ins, and all the other series' are in full flow. _________________ My blog: http://thepokerlifeofdave.blogspot.com/ |

ah yer the "resort fees" what a rip off
I think it is only the harrahs properties that don't have them, $25 extra a day just for essentially wifi is something I'd avoid
you probably get other benefits as well but from what I recall of reading about them only the wifi was of interest |

Whoever came up with resort fees is a genius, even a comped room is subject to them.
Watch out for them when booking a room as they're rarely mentioned until you check in and then it's "oh yeah your room is paid for this a resort fee which isn't included in the price". |

My 40th next year - so I have two weeks in Vegas planned from the 24/25th May.
6 Days with the missus and then freedom (I mean poker - lots of).
Only been twice (February & November) so take my points with a pince of salt.
Most posts already covered the basic points. As said going direct is totally worth the extra monies (afterall you have a whole year to book at a good price) - I once did via San Fran (Horrible travel and Jet Lag). Navigating international and domestic terminals is not fun.
I'm going to be tied to LHR and a particular date probably 24th - Does BA usually offer a discounted fair at some point or will the price just go up?
Probably gonna split between Mirage and Harrahs (might consider a share for the Harrah's if anyone's interested).
I'll do a WSOP 2013 thread later on, but anyone looking for a meet up drink/club to help me celebrate 40 years then let me know.
"I wont be drinking." (At least once for me!)
"I wont be buying whores." (No - but never say never..) Joke.
"I have NO interest in excursions." (That'll be week one for me - define excursions...see above )
"I do not play table games or slots." (Not really for me either.)
Not sure what my budget is Yet:
Probably pick several tourneys and then work on a 2/3*Buy-in per day max for Cash. I usually cash up but nice to have a per day stop loss (& stick to it).
Venetian Deepstack was good fun and probably play 1/2 depending on schedule. Probably try some of the other tourneys mentioned as well as 1 WSOP event. 7 Days isn't a long time when your in these tourneys though!
For low stakes cash last few times I liked Caesars you get a mixed ability croud there and very loose play - can be high variance). On football days they have been known to splash the pot $100 for each touchdown. Of course this just creates action games and more rake.
Also did well at MGM and Planet Hollywood was soft. Late night Hooters was easiest game I ever played in (crap environment though).
Vegas is always moving - so last years/this years places will all change by next year.... |
