Haters gonna hate.

UEFA rules state that you have to be in kit to be presented with the trophy. As club captain and having missed out last year as well, it's not unreasonable for him to lift the trophy jointly with Frank.

Great night for Chelsea and a historic achievement. Fair play to Benitez who's done the job he was brought to do. Can never be accepted but definitely respected as a fine manager.

Aren't they the only team to hold the European Cup and the Uefa Cup at the same time? (for the next few days)

I believe so......its some feat. Of course there will be people that say that the best side lost last night just like when Chelsea played Barce and Bayern last season. But you don't fluke back to back European trophies.

in reply to anyone who says Benfica were the better side........better at what exactly?????

They may have been better at keeping the ball and looking good but any side that concedes two goals like the ones they conceded last night don't deserve to win a football match. Any league two sides manager would rip into his players for conceding a goal from a goalkeepers straight long throw and an unopposed back post header.

Chelsea have proved time and time again that when the heat is on in the big games......they can really dig in and when you add that sort of quality to having skilful players who can hurt people up front then you have the makings of a side that can win things.

I can't think of any side in Europe at the moment who could come under that much pressure and not buckle in big games as often as what Chelsea have Clap

Better at what...

I didn't watch much of the game as the Apprentice was on Angel , but read the stats and only one i have found where Chelsea were better was the number of goals. Obviously the most important stat but the rest seem to be in Benficas favour.

Just like in poker......stats can be wildly misleading when taken in isolation. I saw those same stats which look good on paper but I also saw horrible defensive errors that cost goals. When you basically cannot defend then you can simply take the stats and throw them in the nearest bin.

If stats won trophies then Arsenal would have a sack full

I think you have to succeed somewhere first before you get to that stage Wink

I guess, but I'm just giving you a free point in a future pub quiz question!

I wish my football sides had the same lack of success as some moan about on here, Both my league and non-league sides, for the second year running, managed to finish one place above the relegation spots.

Quick question:

In the event of Arsenal beating Newcastle 2-1 and the Chelsea game finishing scoreless on Sunday, who will be deemed to have finished the season in 3rd ?

There will be play off between them.

Any of the following score combinations would ensure Chelsea and Arsenal finish the Premier League season with identical records:

Chelsea draw 0-0; Arsenal win 2-1
Chelsea draw 1-1; Arsenal win 3-2
Chelsea draw 2-2; Arsenal win 4-3
Chelsea draw 3-3; Arsenal win 5-4
