I only play informal home games (don't do online).

This scenario has hit us a few times, and i'd love to know the proper way to handle things:

Down to 3 players, the dealer (1), small blind (2), big blind (3).

Dealer gets knocked out, so we're down to head to head.

Button moves to (2)

What's the correct way to handle the blinds at this point?

At the moment, player (3) is re-posting the big blind again, but i'm sure that's not right.

You MUST re-draw for seats and split the chips evenly and start h/u with the blinds equal E.G 1000/1000

seriously though the button moves to player 2 who is also the s/b the dealer when 'head to head' or Heads Up as a few people call it is always the S/B and its unlucky for player 3 who DOES take the B/B twice in a row!

Cheers for your reply.

I'm sure I read somewhere that whatever happens, you can't post the Big Blind twice in a row, which is why i'm always scratching my head in this scenario!

Cheers. We'll just continue doing what we do (post big blind twice)

It is pretty unlucky for Big Blind though, as they're usually pretty big at this stage of the tourney.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly certain that a player shouldn't post the Big Blind twice in a row, and that the button should be moved accordingly.

Would be interested to get confirmation of this one way or the other...

Button moves to 3. 2 posts the BB.

X is correct. When a player gets knocked out and you go from 3 players to heads up a player can never post the big blind twice in a row. If the player who just posted the BB was not the player who has been eliminated he will get the button and post the small blind.

Thanks Joe for clarifying (and taking the time to reply).

This seems pretty straightforward.

So basically, the button moves 2 places to prevent posting the big blind twice.

(I think I was confused, because as well as reading that you shouldn't post big blind twice, I read somewhere that the dealer button always moves just one place to the left. This scenario must be the exception to that rule)

Another way to put it is, the BIG BLIND always moves one place to the left. The position of the small blind and button are then placed accordingly. On an interesting side note, I have seen online games where this has not been correctly applied.
