Every corner of my admittedly not too tidy car has a scrape or worse from people in carparks hitting it when parked as well as a few smallish dents in each side and not once has anyone left a number etc. It used to by my Mustang, now it's just my car and in my opinion everyone who hit my car should be put against the wall and made to pay attention and not be so careless with other peoples shit.
It was the wind, it was the kid, blah blah, just pay attention to what you're doing or own up to it. |

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago in a car park, a gust of wind caught hold of my car door and put quite a hefty dent in the door of the car next to me. It was a fairly new SUV and it would cost about £300-£400 to repair it (if it was taken to a reasonable garage).
I won't lie, it did cross my mind to do a runner, I looked around and checked to see that no one saw the incident, but I decided to leave my name and phone number under his windscreen wiper explaining the accident.
Lucky for me, they never rang me and I don't have any guilt. I have always wondered though if they didn't spot my message and drove of and then used their windscreen wiper and the paper flew off. |

I wonder how many people leave their number and deliberately leave the note quite loose. Lots, I expect. |

In my case Seb, it was a A4 piece of paper folded twice into D4 envelope size. Before placing underneath the wiper, I checked that the driver side wiper was not loose and that the industry standard of minimum pressure was equally applied along the full length of the wiper.
This gave me the confidence that any sudden gusts of wind could not remove my note.
I can obviously only speak for myself, but my conscience is clear on this matter |

Strictly speaking this is not a 'Moral Dilemma' as there was only one 'moral' course open to you. _________________ If it wasn't for luck I'd lose every tournament I played...If I wanted to manage a bankroll I'd be a bank manager.

strictly speaking this is the only type of situation that can be a moral dilemma. the option to not be moral is the most important aspect. _________________ The next best thing to gambling and winning is gambling and losing.

I'm guessing you're not personally acquainted with any Buddhist monks.

Moral Dilemmas are situations in which each possible course of action breaches some otherwise binding moral principle. If in this case OP by paying for the damage had to spend the money that would otherwise feed his children hence leaving them hungry, it could I suppose be called a moral dilemma. But a simple choice to act or not to act morally is not a moral dilemma at all. _________________ If it wasn't for luck I'd lose every tournament I played...If I wanted to manage a bankroll I'd be a bank manager.

Years of Catholic school and this is what I have to show for it all:
Do to others as you would have done unto you.
If someone did it to your car, you would want them to tell you. You might let them off, but you'd still want the choice. Therefore the only moral thing to do is to leave a note / wait around. _________________ @oneshotbobby on twitter |
