There were only ever 6 champions of Late Night Poker anyway. Unfortuntaely we lost Hemish Shah in his prime. He was a great player and a credit to the game. As far as I know the other 4 will be playing. I myself will not be playing as I feel that now is a good time to make a stand for poker players who should be better looked after by TV companies and online gaming sites that are using them for advertising purposes. I was offered a deal but as it wasn’t the same deal that Phil Helmuth was offered (would English players rather watch Phil Hellmuth or the Devilfish?) I decided not to play.

What we (I) actually want to watch is the Devilfish at the same table as Hellmuth.
Am I right in thinking LNP are enforcing an amateurs-only rule for all other qualifiers?
Sounds bizzare to me, ensuring there will be minimal high standard poker is a good way to stop me watching. |

Surely Devilfish would know? What is your source? Where did you hear that? |

The structure is (at least this is what it was when I was involved with a very small portion of the planning):
Late Night Poker Ace 2 TV Series: This is a series in its own right, with prize money for the winners etc, I think it'll be along the lines of the last series with 7 heats, a semi and a final.
Late Night Poker Masters: The top 6 finishers in the LNPA2 join some pros (and celebs I beleive) in a further tournament along the same lines as above (heats, semi and final).
In terms of who's playing, Party Poker is sponsoring it, so I imagine it will be whoever they choose to invite. However, I know that Presentable were keen to have a mix of the top players from tpday and some of the old LNP regulars.
As for anyone who's asking why it's not like the old LNP with only pro players, the reason is that any poker TV show nowadays is paid for by a sponsor, and they always want to couple this with online qualifying and hence have some of their online poker players on the show. It's a reality, and people need to realise this IMO. |

This maybe true now but I really hope it won't be the future of poker TV. Just as a golf program in which viewers watched me hack a 96 would only be slightly less painful than watching Eastenders or Xfactor, these amateur poker shows will have to die out when the TV companies and advertisers realise noone is watching them except the players' friends and family.
Just compare any forum discussion of 'High Stakes Poker' with Barry Hearn's 6 seat crapshoots to see which is the way forward. And which will continue to get the higher viewing figures. |

Just becasue you qualify online dosen't nessarilty make you a bad / unentertaining player, from what I understand there are a number of pro / semi pros who just play online. Don't forget also both WSOP 2003 and 2004 main event winers were both online qualifiers. These guys woukld have to get very lucky to get past the online qualify and then either win the heat or come second and win semi to get to play with the pros.
Hopefully the celebs they bring on wont include player to the standard of Den "whats the nuts" Watts.
When you come to Cardiff to film ot don't forget to pop into the Grovsonor and join in a tourny, it would be great to play against some of LNP players. (Sorry we wont be seeing you on LNP there Dave). |

Oh I totally agree, I never watch amateur poker shows, and don't particularly like watching games with a mixture of pros and online qualifiers (but you know this Alex as we've talked about this hehe), however I was just pointing out that people moaning about it on here is not going to change anything for the forseeable future. |

| Quote: | Now the good news , i have been asked to do the commentary for the second series of Late Night Poker Ace being filmed in Cardiff in June at Presentable Productions , i have also been invited to play in the new Late Night Poker series , now titled Late Night Poker Masters , yes after 4 years it is back !
The format has been changed but as Party Poker are paying our expenses and adding $90,000 i can't see anyone complaining.
Basically there will be 4 heats of 8 players made up of 6 pros and 2 qualifiers who will come from the final of Late Night Poker Ace 2 , the top two in each heat will go through to the final where the first prize is $100,000.
I have accepted both and cant wait to get back in the studio where i fancy my chances , 5 times out of the 9 i played i finished top two so have a better than evens chance of making the final. |
Simon Trumper is playing, well according to him anyway. It says so in his blog. I don't know about the others. _________________

I'm sure loads of pros would have tried to win a seat online for this if it wasn't strictly for amateurs only. |

How can they tell?
There must be a fair few poker players online who are at a very good standard and make a living (or at least semi living) from playing poker, how can you tell who they are. |
