I happen to have been off work for the last 2 weeks and have taken the opportunity to play extra sessions on Pokerstars on the 25c/50c and 50c/1 tables.

I logged on for a session each day and evening of the past two weeks. EVERY time i logged on a guy called MANGO1 (with an English flag) was playing at least 4 tables (sometimes more) and had accumulated huge stacks for the level (>$200) on each table.

My questions are as follows:

1) is he likely to be a pro?
2) is it ususal to make such large profits at these levels EVERY day and night?
3) how the hell do you do it?

I have spent time watching his game and apart from the obvious tight/aggressive approach, I could not for the life of me work out what it was about his play that was raking in all that cash.

nice to see an English guy doing well there though.

Well, it's certainly possible to have $50 stacks on 3 tables day in day out in 10c/25c (double the max buyin). It's definately possible to average $100 per day on three tables at this limit.

Maybe when I resist the temptation to cash out so often I can give you an informed opinion on the difficulty in doing this on higher levels...

Dave/Sciolist,

what names do you guys play under on Pokerstars, maybe I can see you around.

Sciolist,
IMO it is much easier to beat the 25c/50c game than the 10c/25c game. Why? I guess people at the lower limit have a smaller roll and just play tighter. At the slightly higher limit you get a lot more loose calling for bigger pots.

Dave,
I am no great player. I just play tight and wait for the right opportunities. I sometimes get from $50 to $200 in one jump after hours of grinding. If you can play in 4 hour stints you will find a few people who want to call your trips with top pair for $100.

Lets not publicise peoples sucess though eh. Might have to change my name on that site!

A monkeyman can play NL hold'em and be a winning player. There are 3 moves to play, definite starting hands and sure positional play. Most people simply do not have the patience to play correctly and after a while start calling trash like AJ, or wondering why their QQ didn't stand up when they allowed a player to see 5 cards for cheap bets.

I could never play day after day in the same microlimit game however. Poker can be used to generate cash yes, but it is a game and at these limits people often take it far too seriously.

2 cents!

I'll say hello if I see you, playing on 25c/50c now too. I won't say my pokerstars name here though, as I'm a highly developed paranoid.
