Yep my thinking totally Neil, my two are not quite old enough to look after them properly.
"Where's the charger?".."dont know Dad" that kind of thing, yet i want to give them a chance to learn to respect and look after their own stuff
Just didnt want to buy something that was completely useless for what they need it for

512 memory and 8 gig storage is a bit sucky but for a 7 year old I doubt they will care that much

I couldnt agree more mick, believe me im an orange and a walnut for xmas mentality..when he first asked me for a tablet i gave him a paracetamol.
My eldest is 7 and as mad as it sounds they have started giving them "homework" even at their age (first year of juniors in our language)...madness
Im not sure of the fact my seven year old knows or even should know how to google something is a good or bad thing at his age.
I think its far more important to know the rules of "Bob bob home release the lot" than to know about Ancient Egypt when your seven
Its a tricky dilema when his class mates have tablets/ipads etc even tho i dont wholeheartedly agree i can hardly send him in with tetris or an abacus

Yeah I get what you mean. It's been normalised and that may or may not be a good thing. After all, the world they will be growing up in will be very different. I remember similar complaints from the previous generation about video games. The generation before that, it was TV. But even though being computer literate might be essential in the future, and those that have a head start will have an advantage, I can't help worrying about the consequences.

Oh and bogus, apple are unethical innit
