Playing at a live tournament on Monday. 50 entry 70 players.
Final table, 8 players left, 8th gets 100, 7th 160....winner 1100
Ave stack is 130,000
I have 135,000
I'm in Big Blind with 5 3 off
Blinds are 4000/8000 no antes
It's folded to the button, he's played very tight and seen his stack dwindle to 28000.
Button goes allin. Small blind folds.
An extra twist.....the button and I are the last two players in a 'Last Man Standing'...the prize is a 220 ticket to a 25k guaranteed tournament at the weekend.

Do you call or fold?

Not with any two cards I'm not calling all day! I'm always folding 53os here, especially to a tight player and no antes in there...

I looked at it like this:
Costing me 20K to win 40K...getting 2/1 pot odds.
I'm a 2/1 shot against any 2 overcards
I'm a 6/1 shot against any over pair.
If I lose the hand my rival for the 220 entry will then have 60K and I'll be down to 115K.
I decided to fold.
2 hands later the guy goes allin with KK and gets KO'd by AQ....I win the ticket and eventually go on to finish 3rd.
Good result all round Very Happy

Gotta agree - I know what Reggie is saying about the ticket, your stack size etc - But 5 3 off is simply a double up for the guy.

Wow really rough spot actually...

I guess its a spot where I am calling if I have been a bit nitty and fold if I am the more active player who is known to call atc

That's a really interesting response Pizz, you figure you're a 6/4 shot getting 2/1?

Yes, it was 4-0, you obviously saw the game in the pub and think all your players are 3 inches tall. Next question.

Well its kinda about skewing the odds of getting the desired situations.

Is it a thinking player who knows that your thinking about all this as well or is it some standard nit that looks down at A2 and folds sometimes because of the last longer?

2/1 is a powerful rule to know but there is some leeway in applying it in applying it in icm situations where it threatens our stack utility and fold equity vs the other players on the table. Actually understanding who thinks about things like that and who doesnt is essentially more important than having the knowledge yourself and can be used to your advantage very well when applying it in these kind of situations because you know they know when you are 'committed'

Damn... I gotta sleep

There i more than just the pot odds to consider when calling with a total junk hand like 53off
(other stack sizes, laddering, number of players left etc)
