Why 7 for the avengers? Seeing Joss Whedon's direction and envisioning of the film come to life on the big screen is perfect. The script is amazingly detailed and laced with sharp wit a humor. The special effects are literally mind-blowing and the action scenes are both hard-hitting and beautifully choreographed. I'll give it an 8/10  |

After reading some reviews, I just came away from the film a bit disappointed. I would have given it a 5 was it not for Johansson's arse in the cat suit and the battle at the end.

MIB 3 8/10 glaring plot inaccuracies and exclusions aside a pretty enjoyable film

Avengers was good, but the Thor / Loki / alien invaders thing was just a bit too sci-fi for me. The human frailties of Doc Oc, for example, make for a better connection with the "baddies". Magneto is a good baddy, for example, or Hannibal Lecter. Faceless alien hordes: not a good baddy. Even the silver surfer had some inner conflicts that made him interesting.
I saw "My Week with Marilyn". Very enjoyable and Michelle Williams is amazing as Marilyn. 8.2/10.

Forces Speciales 7/10 (French, English subs)
Pretty standard 'special forces rescue kidnapped journalist, goes a bit wrong, escape through hostile ground' fayre.
Let down by some pretty poor soldiering, looks like they didn't have an advisor in that area.
Again, kills a couple of hours on a boring Sunday.

Really stylish, and a great performance by Ryan Gosling IMO. Loved the soundtrack too. |

Real Steel 6/10
Rocky with robots, combined with an estranged father/son rebonding sub plot.
Another good family film to pass a couple of hours if you're not looking for anything groundbreaking.
