was just in Tesco car park and i had unlocked my van and then i got distracted by a friend who was walking past, while i was talking my 3yr old let go of my hand and undid my van door, which was then caught by the wind and swung open and took the wing mirror of the nice shiney porsche with the 09 plate parked next to me.
My dilema was do i leave my number or do i jump in the van and leave quickly,
I have since got home and phoned 3 specialists for quotes just incase im caught on CCTV. I dont know much about motors and have no idea what model it was but have been given are best case scenarion £500 worst case scenario £1200.
obv i shot off as quick as possible BUT have since got home and felt guilty so have phoned tesco and left my number just incase the owner complains. _________________ "There's not enough hippies to save our lives, We need more hippies" |

Leaving the scene of a crime?
Could get 6months imo
Of course you have to leave your number, or if everyone took your stance what
would we have.... ANNA-KEY _________________ 'Impatience for victory only guarantees defeat' - Louis XIV |

Well this is a difficult one...i guess it depends how much the money or insurance claim & resulting increase in renewals would mean for you?
I think I would have left my details on the car. I have never had anyone skank my car by driving off, so I don't know if some people that have been hit and run don't leave details because a sort of reverse-karma action.
But this case is more interesting because it is a really high value car. Some people would justify legging it because the owner could probably easily afford the repair, or it wouldn't mean as much to their pocket as it would to you Jon? And I can see the logic in this.
Some people (myself included) will park away from all the other cars or hog two spaces to protect my car from lazy people or kids. They are often stupidly-small spaces. Perhaps another argument the hit and runners might use?
I wouldn't be in the slightest worried about cameras nabbing you. less than 1% chance of that being followed up. |

| I would have left the wrong number. Then if caught on CCTV, your back up was always that you left your number (with one digit accidentally wrong). |

I did this once.
Visiting my sister in the states, scraped side of posh jeep while looking for street parking. Parked, got out, went back to jeep. Nobody there. I was completely anxiety ridden because I was driving my sister's car, and I wasn't on the insurance and the ramifications to her felt like they'd be immense. Went away - got $300 cash and an envelope, wrote anonymous 'so sorry' went back - jeep was gone. Told my sister I'd scraped against a shrub that had a fencepost hidden in it. She wouldn't let me pay to cover repair. ugh.
The WRONG feeling from this episode has stayed with me ever since.
One of my worries is that some people take advantage of others whenever they can - say you own up and the porsche guy says the damage is three grand and he can afford a solicitor to sue you and ugliness ensues.
However, I know that the feeling of wrongness I've lived with for all these years I'd pay three grand to remove.

Yeah i think you should probably leave your number. If he was in the car then you obviously stay and exchange details so it shouldn't be any different because you don't see him lol. Sometimes you have to take the hard/painful choice, if it's the right choice.
edit - also nice play blaming the wind and your 3 year old |

| I'm the most moral person I know but I'd probably write this off to experience and drive off. Interesting. Maybe because cars are just stuff, nothing anyone should take too seriously. |
