Madride not started this already?
Speculation about another new owner and him making £20 mil available in Jan. Where have i heard this before? Just wish someone would take over and keep the club running smoothly and get a decent squad to compete every year.
I was thinking of just creating a 'scottish clubs in crisis' thread since there probs isn't enough of each team to keep it active |

I was waiting till we were actually in crisis
The Whyte/Ellis takeover sounds promising but I remain sceptical till something actually happens. It's more fun winning when we're skint anyway

Rather than create a unique SPL thread I thought I'd piggyback on Rangers success... speaking of which, it's league reconstruction time!

A lot of words to say "We want fewer games between matches against the old firm". Utterly pathetic. |

Positives
End of the ridiculous split which never did us any favours
No-one paid attention to the even worse idea of a 4 team playoff
and that's about it. Playing teams 4 times a season is shit, the standard of football is shit and this will do nothing to improve it. If anything it'll just get worse.
We had a 10 team league it didn't work so we changed it and now we're changing it back again it's a joke. How will this now work anyway will there be 3 teams relegated at the end of this season? _________________ Nil Satis Nisi Optimum |

I vote for 10 teams. Any idea that increases the chance of Aberdeen being relegated is one backed by me!

Bit daft putting this in the Rangers thread where it'll get missed.
However I like your use of quotation marks for something you've invented yourself.
What the proposal is about - and remember that the ugly sisters were among the six clubs on the steering committee, so not sure where that squares with your ill-advised assumption - is keeping the number of competitive games high, along with four home games against the ugly sisters.
If the eague expands to 16 like most moronic fans seem to want, then EVERY team (yes even the Glasgow bigots) will have less matches, producing less revenue, added to the fact that those additional games will come against teams like Ross County, Raith Rovers and QotS.
Not exactly going to be crowd pullers are they? Especially when come February & March, the majority of teams will be playing for nothing in a bunch of meaningless games, safe from relegation, with no chance of 3rd spot and a european place.
Of course it's about money, because the Scottish game is just about bust, something needs to be done to make teams viable, more attractive to outside money, ie. TV, and more competitive financially against similar leagues in other countries.
Those proposing it are hardly doing it out of self interest, as Wiggy has been so roundly quoted, this is for the long term good of the game - any SPL team voting for the change to a top 10 is also voting for a higher likelyhood of not being part of the SPL themselves - hence the Arabs outright denounciation of the plans.
OK, thinking of the greater good will never apply to Rangers & Celtic, there is no chance they will ever consider the bigger picture, but what they can be made to agree with is when something that benefits the majority of teams, will also benefit them, and this proposal does just that.
It has to be 10, and it takes very little consideration to see why. |
