Leave it to the Pros!

The Aussie Millions, Melbourne
A$10,000 No Limit Hold'em

Yesterday the Cavalry arrived. The magnificent dozen Prima poker satellite winners flew in from the far flung corners of the globe; Swedes, Estonians, Americans and Australians swelling the ranks of the Prima Poker Tour.
All of them were winners but some had only ever played poker on-line and after a few drinks we decided to have a practice tournament so they could get the feel of things before the main event. Prima put up some prize money and they all sat down to play poker with The Mob plus a couple of passing journalists who were new to the game but understood the word ‘freeroll’.
Well, the deck hit me in the face like a twenty pound trout and I couldn’t lose a hand if I tried. One of the Swedish players shook his head and said ‘You’ve used up all your form a day early’, but we don’t believe in things like that do we? As it turns out I didn’t use up all my form, I used up all our form.
Having spent last night lecturing our new friends on first day survival, chip management, hand selection and so on, we all crashed out today, and my chips went to a certain young Swede in a Prima shirt! A few of the Prima players are still left in and we have given up giving poker lessons; we are planning to teach Estonian folk dancing instead.
At midday today the card room was buzzing as players rushed around finding backers, checking their odds on Betfair or just psyching themselves up for the second Aussie Millions, the biggest ever game in the Southern hemisphere. When the speeches were over and the cards were in the air, there was a tough 133 player field, and all day the names have been going down thick and fast. Layne Flack was the first to fall, and the loser’s enclosure soon held the likes of Marcel Luske, Peter Costa, Dave Colclough… You really want to be with the field in this one. Amongst those still in are Phil Hellmuth and Lucy Rokach and it would be no surprise to see those two giants of the game doing battle on the final day. But don’t be surprised to see a couple of our Prima Team in the money either. After all, they’ve had survival lessons from The Mob!

The Prima comp starts...
